'ABOVE SEA LEVEL' BY FRANCES JOHNSTON, LAUREN TAUSEND & KAREN WELLS

OPENING NIGHT I SATURDAY 20th OF JUNE 5PM-7PM

VIEWING DATES I 20th OF JUNE UNTIL THE 1st OF JULY 2026

Above Sea Level brings together the work of ceramic artist Karen Wells, painter Frances Johnston, and textile artist Lauren Tausend in an exploration of landscape through three distinct material languages. Drawing inspiration from both oceanic and terrestrial environments, the exhibition considers how place is experienced, remembered, and transformed through the act of making.

Working across ceramics, painting, and textiles, each artist responds to the landscape from their own perspective, translating its forms, textures, rhythms, and emotional resonances into their chosen medium. From shifting coastlines and expansive horizons to intimate encounters with land and sea, the works invite viewers to consider the many ways we connect with and interpret the natural world.

Together, these practices create a dialogue between materiality and place, revealing landscapes not as fixed locations but as lived experiences shaped by observation, memory, movement, and feeling.
