THINGS TO KNOW
Established in 2024, the LEDA Art Prize is in its second year and has quickly become one of the most respected contemporary art awards in Newcastle and the Hunter. Open to emerging and mid- career artists nation wide working in all visual media.
The theme for 2025 is “REFLECTION”.
ART WORK
SIZING: Works can be comprised of up to a 3 part piece. The entirety of the work cannot exceed 2m in any given dimension.
MEDIUM: For the prize, we accept any medium including sculpture, photography and painting. The only exclusion for the prize will be digital forms. Works can be framed or unframed.
THEME: The theme of the Prize is “REFLECTION”. Works considered will have meaning and draw parallel to this theme. Let your creativity run wild.
STYLE: Works must be within the world of abstract and expressionism.
PRIZES
FIRST PRIZE: A 3 week solo exhibition at LEDA Gallery + $1000.00 in cash.
SECOND PRIZE: A 2 week solo exhibition at LEDA Gallery + $500 in cash.
PEOPLES CHOICE: Life drawing lessons valued at $200 + $250 cash

SUBMISSIONS
SUBMITTING: Use the form on the web page to submit your:

- brief artist statement for your work
- contact details
- high res images of your submission.
You can upload up to 3 images of your submission.
FEE: Entry fee is $39.00 and is paid with your submission.
DEADLINE: Entries must be in no later than 11:59pm on Wednesday October 22, 2025.
SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS: The top 30 submissions will be announced on Monday the 27th of October 2025.
Each artist can submit a maximum of 3 separate submissions.
ART PRIZE EXHIBITION
The LEDA Abstract Art Prize will be held on Saturday the 8th November 2025, from 6pm till 8pm.
The works will be displayed at LEDA for a 2 week exhibition, and will be for sale during this period. LEDA takes a 35% commission on all artwork sales. If you’re work is sold, you will be required to invoice us to receive payment for your sale.
JUDGING
The 2025 LEDA Art Prize will feature a high-profile jury panel including James Drinkwater (internationally recognised abstract artist), Justin Lees (artist & director/founder of Wester Gallery), & Kar Mun Phoon (curator at The Lock-Up).
The winners will be announced on the evening of the Prize.
