OFFICIAL OPENING I SATURDAY 25th of OCTOBER, 5pm till 7pm
SHOWING DATES I 25th of OCTOBER till the 5TH NOVEMBER, 2025
Light can penetrate, refract, illuminate, brighten, flood, blind and burn. In Bodies of Light, two painters reflect on the symbiotic relationship between object and light. Lily captures snippets of large spaces inside miniature frames, exploring how various light sources permeate her subject matter. Madeline approaches the topic through a metaphysical lens - considering what light represents as well as what it illuminates.
Lily Holmes is a Melbourne based painter and storyteller. Her work is influenced by architecture, found imagery, sentimental objects, memory, fantasy, art history, and transient natural beauty. She employs gestural, intuitive and repetitive mark making to connect with the viewer via the inexplicit narratives present in her work.
Lily’s practice centres around interiority and the sense-emotion connection. She delights in finding new ways to convey feelings of yearning, joy, desire, helplessness, loss, etc.
Madeline Jovicic is a self taught multidisciplinary artist based in Australia. Her practice explores the enduring nostalgia of summer; its quietness and warmth. Working in oil and acrylic on canvas, she paints intimate scenes of women immersed in light, sunbathing or resting.
Through simplified forms and balanced compositions she transforms fleeting recollections into meditations on presence. Her palette of burnt sienna, turquoise, and blue recalls terracotta tiles, bodies of water, and the glow of late afternoon light.
Her paintings invite viewers into a world suspended between reality and recollection, where sunlight softens the edges of memory and the everyday rituals of summer become quiet acts of stillness.
