Eira Chidgey is a mixed media abstract artist based in Newcastle NSW, who draws inspiration from daily life and lived experiences. 

The Space Within is a reflection of personal grief and loss; In 2020, when the whole world was in the midst of COVID pandemic crisis, I suffered a miscarriage and shortly after travelled to the UK to care for my mother through illness, sitting with her as she passed away. Since returning to Australia I have had the time and space to process my grief and reflect on this journey, arriving at the conclusion that in spite of death we are all still connected in infinite ways; I have been made stronger by both my experience of miscarriage and my mother's bravery. The Space Within celebrates the peacefulness and simplicity of death and the bonds that remain unchanged, the colourful outer ring a symbol of this eternal connection shining through the dark times.
