Michel Le Goff

DEEP BLUE

Oil and acrylic with powdered pigments on canvas |  90 x 90cm | Signed on reverse |  Date of creation: 2010  | Place of creation: Cooks Hill, NSW. |

Loulaki blue is a pigment used in Greece since ancient times. Le Goff emulates the Greek Loulaki blue, used as an architectural highlight on the artist’s island home of Hydra, with ultramarine powdered pigment. The use of this vibrant pure shade of blue is prevalent in Le Goff's work. In this painting, the artist is inspired by his love of the sea. This monochrome work was created at the same time Le Goff painted the “Merewether Waters” series as he bathed daily at Merewether Ocean Baths, Newcastle, NSW when visiting his family in Australia.
