'ALTERISM' PETER RONNE & ANDREW SUTHERLAND

OFFICIAL OPENING I SATURDAY 7th of FEBRUARY, 5-7pm

SHOWING DATES I 7th of FEBRUARY until 18th of FEBRUARY 2026

PETER RONNE
Peter Ronne was born in California and raised in New Jersey. After living in many different places in the US, he moved from Alaska to Australia in 2001. He has always had an intense interest in art and since settling in the Newcastle area has devoted himself to carving, first in stone, and now in wood. He works from his shed with a number of power tools and a lot of sanding. His works proceed from the turbulence of an otherwise calm mind.

ANDREW SUTHERLAND
I’ve been making art since I was a kid. I've always loved drawing and painting, did art at high school and then at 21 did my Associate Diploma in Fine Art at Hamilton Tafe then a Bachelor of Visual Arts at University of Newcastle. I had fantastic teachers at both institutions and learnt a lot. I loved it. I was selected to be a demonstrator on a one year contract in the Art department at the Uni which was great. I went back to Uni a few years later and did my Dip Ed to become a High School Visual Arts teacher which I did for about 5 years and didn’t really like it so have worked in disability care for the last 20 years and paint whenever I’m not at work. I am married to an incredibly patient, beautiful woman and our eldest (builder) son built me a fantastic studio in our backyard that is just a joy to work in. Over the past 8 years Peter Ronne and I have had a joint exhibition together nearly every year with Peter exhibiting his sculpture and me my paintings. It has been a creatively satisfying, personally joyful, rewarding collaboration.
