Artist Bio

Melbourne based artist Daniel Butterworth does not conform. Daniel’s paintings on cardboard with house paint are fresh, confident and an emotional insight into thoughts and feelings.Daniel has been creating from a very young age. He left school at the age of 15 to train as a signwriter, once completed felt he was trapped, not able to express and expand his creativity which lead him to attending and completing a bachelor of fine arts at la Trobe university. Daniel has exhibited all over Australia. Being an Archibald finalist in 2016 when it travelled to Ballarat was asked to open it.
Daniel predominantly paints people but doesn’t allow himself to be pigeon holed, painting whatever it is that inspires him in that moment.
Exhibition Statement

False Faces is an exhibition put together from my exploration of painting the portrait in the way that reflects confidence, realism and connection to the subject. The references used to create This
exhibition are from a photographer named Earthsworld. Earthsworld photographs people in the USA who attend carnivals. Earthsworld allows anyone to use his photographs as references without copyright.

The title False Faces came about when I was asked to tidy myself up because I was going out in public. The idea of this made me think why?
