OPENING NIGHT I SATURDAY the 3rd of AUGUST, 6pm till 8pm
SHOWING DATES I FRIDAY the 2nd of AUGUST till WEDNESDAY the 14th of AUGUST, 2024
'SPARE ROOM' a duo solo exhibition by Lexie Worboys & Raffi Butler. The show delves into the everyday comfort that we seek in our simple yet sometimes dysfunctional life. Remnants of the scattered morning at home before we take off for work, the nightly chaos routine before bed, inspirations from old family photos and celebration are copied and pasted throughout the various mediums and forms explored by Lexie & Raffi.
Raffi Butler is an Emerging artist whose practice involves ceramics and painting. Raffi’s home town is Coffs Harbour, on Gumbaynggirr Country, and has relocated to Newcastle, on Awabakal and Worimi Country. Drawing from everyday mundane life, Raffi uses satire as an entrance to playfully engage and unpackage new, or nostalgic context for the audience.
Lexie Worboys is a 22-year-old emerging artist born and based in Awabakal country, Newcastle Australia. For as long as Lexie can remember she has loved to create. Last year Worboys completed the Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts at Newcastle Art School. While studying Lexie was a finalist in the Hunter Emerging Art Prize (2023) at Newcastle Art Space, where she took out the Youth Prize. Soon after, Lexie was awarded a spot in The Newcastle Art space Mentorship Program, and is currently being mentored by Artist Lezlie Tilley.
Recently Lexie's practice has been ignited by old family photographs, particularly those that capture celebration. Lexie explores these scenes and memories through her drawings and paintings. Her works are intimate, bold, bursting with joy, colour and life.
This year [2024] Lexie was awarded the HIC Services Artist Residency Award at Creator incubator! Where she has her own studio space for the next 12 months, followed by a solo show in March 2025 to conclude the residency!
