MARISA MU

Marisa Mu is a Blacktown-born, East Timorese Chinese artist based in Naarm, Melbourne. She is an alumna of College of Fine Arts, Sydney, graduating with a Bachelor of Design in 2014 and was awarded the Emerging Artist of The Year in 2019.

As a queer woman of colour, Mu’s purpose as an artist is to inspire positive change within people through art. The catharsis of painting has enabled her to merge her personal narratives and cultural histories. Through this she explores themes of Queer Expression, Intersectional Feminism, The Asian Diaspora and Body Liberation.

Marisa Mu advocates for visibility and truth telling through lived experiences and to elevate migrant and refugee women, the LGBTQIA+ community and all culturally diverse folk. Her work is a conscious celebration of hope, playful optimism, resilience and love.

JAN VAN SCHAIK

Jan van Schaik is an artist and architect based in Melbourne. He is the director of MvS Architects, a researcher and PhD supervisor at RMIT Architecture & Urban Design, the founder and convener of the +Concepts creative practice presentation and performance series, the designer of the Lost Tablets art project, and founder and creative sector consultant at Future Tense.

He has two decades of experience designing award winning prototypical public and residential buildings, leading innovative research projects, and supporting contemporary arts organisations through patronage and governance.

Arising from an interest in the complex relationship between human beings and their environments, Jan’s work focuses on the cultural and societal underpinnings of architecture.
